PARA TABLE TENNIS/BAYREUTH OPEN/ GERMANY/ 13– 18 JUNE
The biggest shock of the week came in Bayreuth, Germany, with Rio Gold Medallist and Class 1 top seed, Rob Davies of Great Britain being knocked out at the group stage and ending his hopes for more silverware. Colin Judge of Ireland put in a dominant performance, picking up 3 golds and a bronze to win player of the tournament. Brazil enjoyed a good week with Christina Da Silva Oliveira and Danielle Rauen winning golds in the women’s category.
PARA ROWING/WORLD CUP II / POZNAN, POLAND / 16– 18 JUNE
Reigning World Champion of the PR1 Women’s Single Sculls Birgit Skarstein returned to the top having missed out on the podium at the Rio Paralympics. She led a strong field from the start and claimed gold to restore her dominance. In the Mixed Double Sculls, the Netherlands pairing of Annika Van Der Meer and Come De Koning caused an upset, beating Paralympic champions Lauren Rowles and Laurence Whiteley of Great Britain.
PARA ATHLETICS/ GRAND PRIX / BERLIN, GERMANY / 17– 18 JUNE
Ahead of next month’s World Championships in London, the top Track & Field athletes used the last opportunity to prepare at the Grand Prix in Berlin. The Netherland’s Rens Van de Waterlaat enjoyed an incredible weekend, picking up wins in the 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m. The breakthrough performance of the weekend came from Germany’s Noah Bodelier, who at just 13 years old, made the final of the T44 100m and 200m, being narrowly edged into 4th place in both.
