2017 IBSA Goalball African Championships
The 2017 IBSA Goalball African Championships (Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt) is being dominated by Algeria, current men's and women's African champions. Both teams are undefeated to this point in the tournament.
In the first semifinal match, Algeria played a determined Morocco team, but they were simply no match for the Algerians. Algeria's Samir Belabouchet scored 6 goals, leading his team to the gold medal match with an 11-1 win. In the other men's semifinal match, the home team, Egypt, met the enthusiastic and talented team from Rwanda. Although the teams played a close game in the first half, Egypt began a scoring streak early in the second half. Ashour Abdel Fattah, Mohamed Said and Mohamed Abdel Fattah each contributed 5 goals to Egypt's 15-5 win over Rwanda. Egypt advances to the gold medal match against Algeria. In the women' semifinal match, Egypt and Kenya battled for the right to advance to the final match against Algeria. Egypt kept steady pressure on Kenya and will advance to the gold medal match beating Kenya by a 13-3 margin.
