2017 Outerknown Fiji Women’s Pro | Bethany Hamilton
Updated: Jun 25, 2019
The 2017 Outerknown Fiji Women’s Pro gets underway today, with Bethany Hamilton taking to the water, hoping to better the impressive third placed finish she secured in 2016. “Last year was amazing, yet I know I have to focus and go into the event fresh; it is a new year and, as usual, competition will be tough,” said Hamilton, speaking to the World Surf League.
The Hawaiian survived a shark attack in 2003, where she lost her left arm, but remarkably returned to the sport just one month later and went on to win the 2004 NSSA National Competition in Australia.
Hamilton is placed in Heat 3 alongside Australian Tyler Wright (AUS), who she defeated on her way to the semi-finals last year and compatriot Tatiana Weston-Webb (HAW). The 2017 Outerknown Fiji Women’s Pro takes place May 28 - Jun 02, check out all the action at the World Surf League.
