Updated: Jul 16, 2019

Paralympians vs Olympians

How do Paralympians compare to the well-publicised Olympic athletes?

Well, in some cases the answer is surprising. During the Rio Paralympics in 2016 Abdellatif Baka of Algeria won the T13 1500m Gold in a time of 48.29, a whole 1.7 seconds quicker than his compatriot at the Olympic Games, gold medal winner Matthew Centrowitz.

Oh, and the second, third and fourth placed runners in that race were also faster than Centrowitz.

On top of that, there are four different weight categories where the power-lifting world records of the Paralympics exceed those of the Olympic Games.
