The Paralympics have grown rapidly over the last 20 years, developing from little brother to the Olympic Games to a sporting mega-event in their own right. However, there are some pretty startling facts that most people aren’t aware of:
At the first Paralympic Games in Rome in 1960 there were just 8 sports.
This number has expanded rapidly since and during Rio 2016; where 4,342 athletes competed in 22 sports.
At the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, Football 7-a-side and Sailing will drop out of the sports programme to be replaced by Badminton and Taekwondo.
